Rice Aquatics Start Date for Fall 09

Swimmer/Parents - All Age Group programs will start on September 8th. If your group does not practice on Tuesday you will begin on Wednesday of the same week. RICE will be hosting evaluations over the next two weeks to fill out the team for the 09 -10 season.

Margaret Hoelzer, 2-time Olympian (2004, 2008) and recent

triple Olympic Medalist will be this year’s Gold Medal Clinician

and Banquet speaker. Last summer, Margaret won a bronze and

two silver Olympic medals. At the U.S. Trials, she posted her first

World Record swim in her signature event, the 200 m Backstroke.

13 & Over Swimmer check-in at 8:30 am. Clinic 9:00 to 12:00 am.

12 & Under Swimmer check-in at 12:30 pm. Clinic 1:00 to 4:00 pm.

Ms. Hoelzer will be answering questions from parents between

sessions.

Listed below is the meet schedule for the 2009-2010 Short Course Season:

Junior and Elite meets are ages 9-14. Swimmers with 3 A times or more will swim at the elite meets and can enter any event. Swimmers with less than 3 A times will swim at the Junior meets.

Meet Directors Clinic - Parents Needed !!!

As we move into the new year and new pool the opportunity for RICE to host swim meets is now a possibility. Not only has GULF shown interest in using the facility for this coming Longcourse season, we (RICE) are wanting to host some intra-squad meets for own team. In order for any of these meets to be sanctioned and count we must have a certified meet director to help run/administer the meet. All USA swim meets are based heavily on volunteer help from parents like you. The GULF is hosting a meet directors clinic for anyone wanting to learn and get certified as a meet director. This will be good for the entire year. It is crucial to the teams growth that we have at least one (if not more) parent(s) who are certified as meet directors. The annual Gulf Swimming Meet Directors Clinic will be held on
Wednesday, August 26 at 6:30 pm in room 2001 at the University of
Houston Athletic/Alumni Center.

All teams hosting Gulf meets during the 2009-10 short course and 2010
long course seasons must have a certified meet director on deck during
meets and to receive a meet sanction. Currently certified meet directors
may recertify for 2010 by attending the meeting. New meet directors must
attend the meeting and pass the test.

Dinner will be served. Please respond back to Henry Clark you plan to attend
so that we may order enough food.
