Parking Info

We received good news today, parking services has received the go ahead to issue early bird/night bird parking passes. Rice Aquatics will send them a roster of our members and you can register one of two ways:

1. The parking services office opens at 8am weekdays and will be ready for Rice Aquatics members by noon tomorrow. The office is located in the parking garage directly across the street from the pool.

2. It looks like they will be at the pool on Wednesday and Thursday this week for easy access registration. We are planning on 4:30-6:00pm. Directions registration will be posted on the website, www.riceaquatics.com tomorrow afternoon once we clear up exact times and steps in registering. The cost will be $115 for a year or $65 for a semester. There will be a $25 fee for the proxy card. I will check to see if you get this money back if you return the card. We will also find out how they are handling payment.

By the way today was great in the new pool.

See you at the pool,

New Pool Status

We begin at 6:00am on Monday, November 2

The long awaited opening of the competition pool is upon us. There will be a number of bugs to work out over the rest of the fall. Please be attentive to our announcements and instructions on how we operate. I anticipate making changes in the way we do things during the first few weeks as we realize what works and what doesn’t.

Here are a few important points:

Website Registration for each individual on the team with Rice Aquatics. Both the recreation center and the parking services have requested a team roster. If your name is not on the roster there is a chance that they will not admit you to the facility or allow you to purchase a parking permit. We will be turning over rosters on Monday.

Parking is available in several lots. The Rice Parking Services Office will implement the Early Bird/Night Bird parking system next week, at $65 per semester or $115 per year. They are going to have parking registration for your convenience available at the pool next week. I will announce those dates and times as soon as they give them to me. You will also be able to go to Parking Services in the parking garage across from the recreation center during normal business hours to register. Your name will need to appear on our Team Unify Web Site Roster to be eligible. The parking permit will allow you to park in the west lot, nearest the pool.

Recreation Center entrance for now will be through the main entrance. Soon you will be given a Rice Aquatics pass and possibly in the future they may use a key tag or ID card, but till then we will have a printable pass on our website (available over the weekend), www.riceaquatics.com and the recreation staff will be checking in entrants with the pass off our roster. You will have use of locker rooms and the competition pool. At this time there are no added benefits to your entrance into the recreation center. Please do not put our group’s access in jeopardy by utilizing other amenities within the recreation center.

Guests and Try Outs will need to contact me for a temporary pass to gain access to the recreation center.

Remember all of our practices will now be at the new recreation center on the Rice campus.

I will be posting a revised map location on our website under the about link and RICE pool. For now follow thislink. The Rec Center is located on the corner of Laboratory/loop Road and Alumni Drive.

RICE Howl-o-ween

My name is Ashten Ackerman and I am a swimmer at Rice University. I am currently in a class within the sport management major and we are hosting the first annual Rice Howl-o-ween Dogathon. This event as you can guess is on Halloween and is taking place from 12-3pm in front of Tudor Fieldhouse. A dogathon is a walk-a-thon except you get to bring your best friend! We are currently charging $25 to register a dog and a walker. Children will get in free!! There will be tons of things going on besides walking to entertain everyone, we are having sponsors come out with give-aways and vending, we will have a kids zone with a bounce house and games, along with athlete autographs, costume contests for people and dogs and much much more!!!

We would love to have you out at our event and if you can't make it or do not have a dog don't worry, you can always walk without a dog or you can donate towards the cause! This event is benefitting Rice Women's Athletics and local dog shelters.

If you have any further questions or would like to register please contact me before Wednesday October 28, 2009:
