Drop Off/Pick Up

Parents- I want to apologize ahead of time for the frankness of this email but this is an urgent matter that is affecting future use of the pool for our swim team. As a parent I realize that the University is set up for external parking with a system of bus and walking in the main campus areas and is not the most ideal set up for a drop off pick up for our program as well as every other youth camp ran at RICE. But we also must work within these restrictions to help foster a positive relationship with our program and RICE University to ensure we have use of the pool for your swimmers as well as future swimmers. With this in mind we have set up a few different options for getting your swimmers to and from practice. There is drop/off pick up as set by the guidelines below, temporary pay parking in the North lot or parking garage, or the semester/year of pay parking in the West Lot 3 (bus runs to this lot).

A final reminder about our drop off and pick up situation in front of the Recreation Center. Yesterday we had several parents stop and block traffic at the coned off area after practice. Traffic at the four way stop sign could not move for up to five minutes because of the cars that were impassable in front of the Recreation Center. The line at the stop was at least four cars deep all directions. An RUPD did have to get out and direct our parents to move closer into the curb and down the street.

There is no permanent parking in front of the coned area of the recreation center. Prior to 4:30 dropp off needs to take place past the cones and in front of the fence of the pool. After 4:30 you can pull next to the curb to drop off/pick up swimmers but can not park for an extended period of time. If your swimmer is not out of the building you will need to circle back around and keep the road clear. RICE Aquatic families need to move further down the street (closer to the pool side of the building) for pick up or keep circling until your swimmer exits the building. While weather conditions were not great yesterday there is plenty of covered building area toward the pool for swimmers to stay dry during the pick up area. If you are not wanting your swimmer to make this walk to the car you will need to purchase a parking pass or pay park and walk in to get your swimmer.

Repeated violations of a few are affecting our relationship with RICE University and the Rec Center and future use of the pool. Drop/ Pick up may also be restricted to pay parking only. As a result future incidents will be considered a violation of the code of conduct and action will be taken accordingly.

Thank you for helping in this matter,
Coach Jason

The Houston Chronicle on-line poll of “What is the Best Rice Sports Moment of 2011?” is about to close. RICE Swimming needs your votes to put us over the top of Baseball.

FCST Summer Champs

Parents - The Timeline and Warm Ups have been posted online under the event page for the FCST Summer Champs meet. Job Sign Ups will be up tomorrow afternoon. I have attached a note from FCST on possible air quality in the pool. Please plan accordingly.

Attention Gulf Group A attendees at Gulf’s Summer Champs Meet, July 15-17, 2001 hosted by FCST at Don Cook Natatorium, Sugar Land TX

FCST has been advised by Don Cook Facilities Management, that the natatorium HVAC system is currently operating at less than optimal efficiency.  Although repair parts have been ordered and are scheduled to be installed, Facilities Management cannot guarantee that the HVAC system will be fully functional at the time of the Gulf’s  Summer Champs Meet.
Should the natatorium HVAC system remain at less than optimal efficiency, meet attendees should plan for outdoor seating under pop-up tents until their swimmer’s event(s) are ready to be swum.
From FCST Board

FCST will provide a limited number of pop-up tents to be positioned on the grassy area adjacent to the natatorium, however, FCST cannot provide sufficient tents for all attendees.  FCST will also undertake reasonable efforts to improve the indoor air quality by renting large-size portable fans, however, the use of such fans will have limited effect on the indoor air temperature.
We apologize in advance for the facility’s HVAC issue, and hope that all swimmers and their families have an enjoyable and successful Champs Meet.
