Top 10 list for the Champs meets

Age Groupers and Senior Swimmers -
It is starting to look a lot like taper! Just a friendly reminder to all those swimmers attending meets this weekend and next of a couple tips to help you swim fast.

Tips:

1 - Rest. It is critical that you are getting a good amount of sleep at night pre meet week and during the weekend of your meet.
2 - Repeat step one.
3 - Routine. Keep your routine. Your coaches will rest you accordingly. Do not take things into your own hands and skip practices. Older swimmers especially need to be hoping into the pool even the day before their Champs meet.
4 - Eat right. Lay off those simple sugars, caffeinated drinks and general junk food you have left over from Valentines. Keep them for the post meet celebration! Or when you are on spring break with your parents!
5 - Where is your racing gear? Get all of your meet gear bought/located and put it in a safe place. No one wants to find out they do not have their racing goggles the night before a meet. If your suit is worn and drooping get a new suit. If you have questions about racing suits. Fastskins or TYR Tracer lights talk to your coach before purchasing. New meet goggles? Make sure you have worn them for at least a week of practice and dove in with them outside of meet warm ups.
6 - Relax. The work is done and there is no looking back now to what ifs or could haves. Trust that you put the work in and swim up to your FASTEST potential.
7 - Its not life or death ....... Unless I tell you so before your race.
8 - Finals. If your swim meet has finals you will be expected to come back if you qualify. This is a great honor and a way to get another swim in against the fastest kids of the meet.
9 - Practice like it is Rehearsal for your meet. Race Turns. Race Turns. Race Turns.
10 - No jumping out of trees. Seems like an odd way to end the list but every few years I have a swimmer pull up lame for their Champs meet due to some out of nowhere bone head move. Save the energy for the pool!
